Airport Overview & History
Palm Beach International Airport (ICAO: KPBI, FAA: PBI) is the primary airport serving Palm Beach County and one of the busiest mixed-use airports in Florida. Located in West Palm Beach, PBI handles approximately 175,000 flight operations annually across both commercial airline service and a massive general aviation operation. The airport's private aviation sector is among the most active in the country. For official FAA data, visit the FAA Airport Data portal or AirNav PBI.
PBI's private aviation traffic reflects Palm Beach County's extraordinary concentration of wealth. The island of Palm Beach, directly east of the airport across the Intracoastal Waterway, has one of the highest per-capita incomes in the United States. The migration of hedge funds, financial firms, and tech companies to Palm Beach County since 2020 has further accelerated private jet demand. PBI now regularly outpaces many dedicated GA airports in charter and corporate flight volume.
The airport is owned and operated by the Palm Beach County Department of Airports. Three FBOs compete for private aviation clients on the north side of the field, separated from the commercial terminal operations. The 10,008-foot primary runway accommodates every aircraft in production, including ultra-long-range international arrivals.
Location & Address
Palm Beach International Airport is located at 1000 James L. Turnage Blvd, West Palm Beach, FL 33406. The airport sits at coordinates 26.6832° N, 80.0956° W, at an elevation of 19 feet above mean sea level.
Driving distances from PBI to key destinations: Palm Beach Island/Worth Avenue (5 miles, 12 min), Downtown West Palm Beach (3 miles, 8 min), Jupiter (20 miles, 25 min), Wellington (15 miles, 20 min), Boca Raton (22 miles, 25 min), Delray Beach (17 miles, 20 min). I-95 and the Florida Turnpike provide fast north-south access.
Ground transportation at PBI includes luxury car services, SUVs, and Rolls-Royce sedan service coordinated by each FBO. The short drive from the GA ramp to Palm Beach Island (12 minutes) makes PBI the undisputed airport for the Palm Beach community. Unlike Fort Lauderdale or Miami, there is no closer alternative.
Runways & Facilities
Palm Beach International operates three runways:
Runway 10L/28R is the primary runway at 10,008 feet, one of the longest in South Florida. This runway accommodates every aircraft in production without restriction, including ultra-long-range international arrivals. Full ILS approach on both ends. The 10,008-foot length means heavy jets at maximum weights operate with significant margins.
Runway 10R/28L is the parallel runway at 6,933 feet, used for GA traffic and lighter jets. This runway keeps private aviation operations separate from commercial traffic on the primary runway, reducing taxi times and delays.
Runway 14/32 at 3,215 feet handles light piston and helicopter traffic.
FBOs & Ground Services
Palm Beach International Airport is served by 3 Fixed Base Operators (FBOs), each offering ground handling, fueling, and passenger services.
Atlantic Aviation
The primary private aviation FBO at PBI, Atlantic operates a large terminal on the north side of the field with executive lounges, crew rest areas, conference rooms, and extensive hangar parking. The facility handles the highest volume of private jet traffic at PBI and is the default arrival point for Palm Beach Island residents, Worth Avenue shoppers, and seasonal visitors. Ground transportation includes luxury sedan, SUV, and Rolls-Royce services to Palm Beach, Jupiter, and Wellington.

Palm Beach benefits from South Florida's subtropical climate with year-round flying weather. Winter (November through April) is peak season with consistently VFR conditions, mild temperatures, and low humidity, perfectly aligning with the highest charter demand period.
Summer brings daily afternoon thunderstorms (2-5 PM), typical of tropical Florida. Morning and evening operations are largely unaffected. Hurricane season (June through November) requires monitoring. PBI's 19-foot elevation means density altitude is never a performance factor.
