A National-Leading GA Reliever
Centennial Airport (KAPA), owned and operated by Arapahoe County, is a designated reliever for Denver International and consistently ranks among the busiest general aviation airports in the United States, with well over 300,000 annual operations. Located in Englewood at the heart of the Denver Tech Center, it is the primary business-aviation gateway to the southern Denver metro and serves as the corporate aviation hub for one of Colorado's densest business-park corridors.
Runway Capability
The airport's three runways are anchored by 17L/35R at 10,002 feet of concrete, long enough for heavy and ultra-long-range business jets including the Gulfstream G650, Bombardier Global 7500 and Boeing BBJ. The parallel 17R/35L (7,001 ft) and crosswind 10/28 (4,800 ft) handle lighter traffic, training flights and crosswind operations. The multi-runway layout provides excellent wind coverage, so crosswind limits rarely restrict operations.
Charter Considerations
APA is an ideal arrival point for travelers headed to the Denver Tech Center, south metro suburbs (Greenwood Village, Centennial, Lone Tree, Castle Rock) and as a feeder for the Colorado ski corridor. Downtown Denver is roughly 17 miles northwest, typically 25-35 minutes by car. Full-service FBOs offer direct ramp-to-vehicle transfers, rental delivery and concierge ground transportation, eliminating the terminal congestion of nearby Denver International.
Customs & International Arrivals
Centennial is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection port of entry with on-field clearance available, making it a practical alternative to Denver International for international business-jet arrivals. Operators should arrange CBP clearance in advance through their FBO; The Jet Finder coordinates customs and handling for inbound international legs.
Density Altitude & Safety Planning
At 5,885 ft MSL, KAPA is a high-elevation airport where summer temperatures can push density altitude above 9,000-10,000 feet. Pilots transitioning from sea-level fields must plan for longer ground rolls, reduced climb performance and conservative weight-and-balance margins. Front Range turbulence and afternoon convective buildups are common; morning departures generally offer the smoothest, most reliable conditions.
Noise & Weight Guidelines
Centennial has no mandatory curfew, but the airport partners with the Centennial Airport Community Noise Roundtable and asks all operators to follow voluntary noise-abatement procedures with preferred runways and flight tracks over the least-populated areas. Aircraft below 70,000 lbs maximum gross takeoff weight, and Stage III aircraft up to 75,000 lbs MGTOW, may operate. There is no PPR (prior permission) requirement for standard business aviation traffic.
Regional Context
Within the Denver metro, KAPA is complemented by Rocky Mountain Metropolitan (KBJC) to the northwest and Denver International (KDEN) about 19 NM north for airline connections. For mountain destinations, Aspen (KASE), Eagle (KEGE) and Rifle (KRIL) are common onward legs. APA's combination of a 10,000-foot runway, full instrument approaches, on-field customs and multiple competing FBOs makes it the default choice for corporate jet access to southern Denver.
