Private Jet Pet Travel Requirements & Documentation

Complete checklist of pet travel requirements for private jet charter. Vaccinations, health certificates, microchipping, and carrier regulations.

Private jet pet travel requirements are simpler than commercial airlines but not nonexistent. Domestic flights need minimal documentation. International flights require advance planning. Here is everything you need.

Domestic Requirements

Current rabies vaccination. Up-to-date vaccination records. Some operators request a brief health certificate from your vet confirming fitness to fly. No crate requirements during flight. No breed or size restrictions.

International Requirements

ISO 15-digit microchip. Rabies vaccination (administered after microchip). Veterinary health certificate within 10 days of travel. USDA-APHIS endorsement. Destination-specific permits, blood tests, or treatments.

Operator Requirements

Notify your broker during booking that a pet will travel. Provide the pet's breed, weight, and temperament. Confirm any cleaning fee policy. Ensure the selected aircraft's owner/operator allows pets — most do, but not all.

Frequently Asked Questions

For domestic flights, most operators accept current vaccination records. A brief health certificate is recommended but not always required. International flights always require a health certificate.

For international travel, yes — an ISO 15-digit microchip is required by nearly all countries. For domestic US flights, microchipping is not required but recommended.

Rabies vaccination is universally required. Core vaccinations (distemper, parvovirus for dogs; FVRCP for cats) should be current. Some destinations require additional vaccinations.

Crates are not required on most private jet charters. Pets travel in the cabin uncrated. A carrier is optional for small pets or anxious animals.

For domestic flights, 1–2 weeks is sufficient. For international flights, begin 4–6 months early for strict destinations and 4–6 weeks for standard destinations.

If the operator's policy prohibits pets (rare), or if required documentation is missing for international flights, boarding could be denied. Confirm pet policies during booking.

Inform your broker and veterinarian. Obtain a fitness-to-fly letter from your vet. Some conditions (recent surgery, respiratory issues) may require special accommodations or timing.

On private charters, emotional support animals are treated the same as any pet. There are no special ESA designations needed — all animals are welcome in the cabin.
